Description
Our client is seeking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to its Nuclear Engineering and Management Group in Aldermaston.
The successful Mechanical Engineer will work within a dynamic project based environment focusing on delivering Owner's Engineer and safety services, including engineering design evaluation/ substantiation, options studies, safety case preparation and analysis, ARM studies, and safety management appraisals; from concept through design, implementation, operation and decommissioning to our global client base.
Specific Experience:
The Mechanical Engineer should be able to carry out surveys of a wide variety of mechanical equipment and systems. The surveys will be as a part of the design process which will include all calculations required to support a design, these may be produced either as hand calcs or using software such as Mathcad.
Experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the nuclear industry would be of considerable advantage but experience in other high risk industries such as aerospace and railways would be equally applicable.
Experience of one or more of the following areas of work would be an advantage;
- Knowledge of the design of complex mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of the design of mechanical structures.
- Familiarisation with nuclear philosophies,
- Understanding of how design data is used to support safety cases,
- Understanding of the requirements of the COSHH Regulations,
- Preparation of method statements, safety assessments, risk assessments and hazard identification,
- Experience of the installation and commissioning of ventilation systems,
- Experience of the installation and commissioning of services such as heating systems, gas systems, vacuum systems etc.
- Familiarisation with the Pressure Systems Regulations.
- The ability to produce drawings on a CAD system, Autocad is used here, any 3D and/or Failure Effects & Mode Analysis would be advantageous.
- Candidates must have experience of building services industry related business or research, preferably within a nuclear or major hazard industry context.
- An HNC, BSc or MSc in a relevant engineering or scientific subject.
- Due to the sensitive classification of the work these positions are available only to British subjects, either by birth or naturalisation.
- Due to the sensitive classification of the work the candidate must have lived and worked within the UK for the last three out of five years.

Minimum Qualification: Bachelors Degree Hons or equivalent
