A Senior Project Engineer to work on the Omdurman Water Supply and Optimisation project near Khartoum in Sudan. The plant will treat water from the Nile and deliver it in bulk to part of the population of Omdurman. Responsible for the river intake, the water treatment plant, the bulk transmission mains, and a new 40 Mld storage reservoir located in the distribution network.  The civil construction works is estimated to be in the order of US$25-30 million, and the total value of the contract is US$85 million. During the first few months the position will be based either in the UK or South Africa where there will be a particular involvement in the electrical design and procurement. It is anticipated the role will transfer to Sudan during late 2008.  Full responsibility for ensuring all aspects of the M&E design and engineering construction comply with contract designs and specifications Manage the electrical design and procurement Research and select pre-qualified local companies to tender for installation works and negotiate and award contracts in conjunction with the commercial management team Ensure all technical reports and quality/test records required are maintained for inspection by the independent Engineer, and correlate all technical records and drawings for submission to the Client upon completion Monitor construction progress against the program and constructively contribute to decision making to maintain progress to target Ensure sub-contractors comply with the environmental and social management plan, and ensure full compliance with company health and safety procedures Check material take-offs from drawings and reconcile them with procurement orders Manage, monitor and record equipment deliveries to site Qualifications and Experience Minimum HNC/HND but preferably a BSc in Mechanical or Electrical engineering Electrical engineering design and site experience essential Strong track record with major contractors preferably in the water sector Overseas experience in difficult locations strongly preferred Ability to lead, motivate and manage local staff Team player who is able to live and work within a small expat team  Tax free remuneration package (although salary will be taxable during initial period in the UK) Accommodation Transport International private health cover 42 calendar days’ leave per annum with an economy flight after every 3 months Monthly food allowance equivalent to £200 paid locally.
