Parc are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a post based in central Glasgow.

The role will involve taking a lead in design works on a number of water treatment sites in the Glasgow area. Projects should involve both clean and waste water sites.

The post can be offered on either a permanent or contract basis, with start dates ideally may 2008 although there can be some flexibility here.

Rates/ salary figures have not been set, the will be negotiable on individual experience.

Academic and professional qualifications:

  • BSc or BEng or HND or HNC mechanical engineering, or other engineering with mechanical engineering elective essential
  • CEng, IMechE desirable

Background and experience:

Proven experience of design and specification for mechanical engineering with proven experience of water/wastewater treatment plant/infrastructure projects. Experience of interpreting process mass balance and process flow diagrams to determine mechanical plant requirements

Experience of working as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team.  Management of mechanical sub-contract packages through to procurement, including technical support until commissioning.  Experience of design and specification for chemical dosing systems and for treatment systems, including SBR, MBR and ASP technologies

Knowledge base:

  • Application of current design standards and specifications
  • Broad range of design for infrastructure/non-infrastructure projects
  • UK Water Industry standards and specifications
  • Experience of hydraulic calculations for process plant
  • Appreciation of process/civil/electrical engineering for water/wastewater asset creation and upgrade

Skills:

  • Competent user of MS Office
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experienced user of mechanical design software desirable

Personal attributes:

Ability to direct, supervise and coach junior staff.  Always seeking improvement in design and delivery performance

Experience of successfully leading a technical team desirable

Full driving licence preferable
