Our Client is seeking to build a team capable of taking forward implementation of renewable energy projects with a particular emphasis on biomass resources, PV, carbon management and energy efficiency.
The principal function of this position is to undertake project management of renewable energy projects, with a focus on biomass and thermal combustion processes, providing technical advisor or project and construction management services to our clients. This will involve co-ordinating specialist input to these projects and providing expertise to take projects from technical feasibility study and environmental assessment, through detailed design, procurement, construction management, commissioning and acceptance.
To actively participate in development of the renewable energy team, liaison with clients, and business development activities.
Key areas of responsibility will comprise:
· project management of Renewable energy projects, co-ordinating specialist input, and managing delivery of the project to quality, time, and cost
· liaison and communication with clients as project manager
· managing and executing feasibility studies and design projects; and contract management and site supervision for the implementation of renewables projects
· developing the team capability to provide detailed design, contract management and site supervision services, particularly for biomass and CHP
· providing technical guidance to junior members of the renewables team
Specific responsibilities will include some or all of the following:
· specifying and co-ordinating design and site survey activities
· working with environmental specialists to progress environmental assessments and planning applications
· construction planning and coordinating input of CDM specialists and site engineers
· preparation and management of contracts for procurement of plant and site construction
· negotiation, or assistance with connection and power purchase agreements
· undertaking or arranging plant inspections, commissioning and witnessing acceptance tests; bid and proposal preparation
The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:
· degree qualified in a relevant science or engineering subject, either chartered or working towards chartered status with a relevant professional engineering institution
· project engineering or management experience involving quality, cost and time management
· project engineering, design, procurement, or construction experience in biomass systems
· a track record in the delivery of medium to large biomass power plants
· expert knowledge of thermal combustion processes including knowledge of fuel storage and handling issues, boilers, combustion, power plant and condenser configuration, site layout and performance modelling
· knowledge of new technologies including gasification and anaerobic digestion would be a plus
· knowledge and appreciation of biomass fuel supply issues
· flexibility to work on a range of projects at different stages (including other renewables)
