The discovery in the Carnarvon Basin off the shores of western Australia could provide good opportunities for those already with gas jobs who are willing to re-locate down under.
Chevron is the leading leaseholder in the Carnarvon Basin - Australia's premier hydrocarbon basin.
The exploration well about 160 kilometres north-west of Onslow was drilled to a depth of 4,560 metres. Here a total of 130 metres of net gas pay was found.
The additional natural gas supplies are expected to underpin Chevron's LNG project on Barrow Island and initial development of the project will include three trains, a domestic gas plant and LNG facility.
Construction of the $43 billion (£26 billion) gas project is expected to begin shortly and the first LNG production is expected in 2014.
