The report published by the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee claims that if the right investments are made now, the UK could create thousands of green energy jobs and become a world leader in the £3 trillion global market for eco technologies.
Recently it was announced that companies were being invited to bid for a share of £2.5 million to help a selection of government departments in Whitehall reduce their energy use.
Still, despite this and the government's Low Carbon Transition Plan setting out how it aims to decarbonise the economy, the committee maintains it does not provide a clear enough sense of what needs to happen to jobs and skills.
The committee is calling on the government to launch a street-by-street programme of energy-saving measures for households, provide industry with a clear and stable long-term policy framework to guide them through the low-carbon transition and prioritise green skills under its new skills strategy.
