Centrica walked away with first place at the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Online Awards UK.

Simon Henderson, Centrica's director of corporate responsibility, said: "We've made significant strides forward in reporting across the business, so we're delighted that we have again been recognised for this."

Although, he added that the company is well aware that there is still much to do.

The CSR awards considered the website's use for corporate social responsibility communications of the 30 biggest companies in the FTSE 100 index, according to a list of 76 evaluation criteria. The criteria were drawn from professionals and experts in 30 different countries as the result of a survey.

Centrica came top for the amount of space for "CSR hot topics" visible on its website and its environmental commitment.

The organisation claims to be committed to low-carbon energy and making sure that power supplies for now and in the future are secure.
