As a result of a new grant, UK cities will see 349 vehicles on the roads by 2012.
The Green Bus Fund's purpose is to facilitate the purchase of new low carbon buses by local authorities and bus operators.
It comes as a result of an announcement today (December 3rd) from the Department for Transport (DfT), as part of a campaign towards making better air quality in cities.
Sadiq Khan, transport minister, said: "Both the environment and British industry is receiving a major boost from this £30 million fund. It gives the initial support needed to stop the rise in bus CO2 emissions we've seen over the last ten years."
He added that it will also provide bus manufacturers with a sense of certainty which will enable them to keep their work force.
The DfT functions to provide directions for the sector to facilitate the achieving of its objectives.
