New engineering jobs could be created in Scotland's burgeoning energy sector following the announcement that a windfarm in Aberdeenshire has been given the go-ahead.
Novera Energy won approval for its plans to build a five-turbine facility in Turriff that will be capable of generating 10MW to 12.5MW of electricity capacity.
Aberdeenshire Council approved the proposals for Gordonstown Hill Wind Farm, which will now enter into the development phase.
Following the green light, Novera will now move ahead with completion of advanced planning, the drawing up of grid agreements with utilities companies and procurement of turbines and other parts necessary to build the power station.
According to newenergyfocus.com, David Fitzsimmons, chief executive of the company, said: "Gordonstown Hill is currently on track with our internal time line and we now look forward to the next stages of development at the site including securing grid connection and financing before we begin the turbine selection process.
"When completed the wind farm will provide clean energy for up to 7,000 homes in Aberdeenshire."
Currently, Novera generates renewable power at 57 sites in the UK and creates electricity capacity totalling 118MW.
